Claims help
Report a claim to your insurance company as soon as you can, then let ALP know. Here is what to do first and how we can help.
If anyone is hurt or in danger, call 911 first.
What to do
-
1
Report the claim to your insurance company.
Use the claims phone number or online claim reporting shown on your policy, declarations page or ID card. Most policies require you to report a loss or accident promptly, so don't wait to gather every detail.
-
2
Record what happened.
Note the date, time and place, the people, vehicles and property involved, witnesses and any police or incident report number. Take photos, and keep damaged property and receipts until the insurance company has had a chance to see them, unless it is unsafe to do so.
-
3
Don't admit fault or agree to pay.
Be courteous and share facts, but leave fault and payment to the insurance company. Many policies say you should not make voluntary payments or settlements without the insurer's consent.
-
4
Let ALP know.
Call or email us with your policy number and the claim number the insurance company gives you. If you can't find your insurer's claims number, call us and we will help you get the claim reported.
How ALP helps
- Helps you find the right claims contact and get the claim reported
- Follows up with the insurance company and adjuster
- Explains the claim process and the policy documents involved
- Reviews your coverage and limits with you after the claim
What the insurance company decides
- Whether the loss is covered under the policy
- How much is paid, after deductibles and limits
- Repairs, inspections and the adjuster assigned
Telling ALP about a claim is not the same as reporting it to the insurance company. Coverage is determined by your policy's terms, conditions and exclusions.
